From Hiding to Presence
Updated: 6 days ago
For much of my life, I knew what it meant to hide — from shame, vulnerability, anger, and the fear of being truly seen.
As an actor, mime and physical performer, I discovered freedom through movement, character and expression. Yet sometimes, the very forms that allowed me to express myself also became places to hide.
My own experiences of personal and transgenerational trauma have shaped how I inhabit my body, relate to others and express myself — through moments of freezing, fighting, fleeing, adapting or becoming still.
Over time, I began to discover that these were not failures, but ways of protecting myself. Parts of me asking not to be fixed, but to be met.
I am learning to welcome the whole of my humanity — the anger and tenderness, the joy and grief, the broken heart and the life that continues to move within it.
Sometimes a breakdown may become a breakthrough. Sometimes it is enough simply to be with what is here.
To feel. To breathe. To be present.
To allow myself to be fully human.
